I'm professor "Enseignant Chercheur" at Université Paul Sabatier (Toulouse, France) in the Laboratoire de Génie Chimique. It is an exciting job where we do research to discover the complexity of the matter with international scientifics, where we work to control this complexity in industrial applications and where we make this complexity understandable to our students.

I achieve my teaching activity in the Physico-chemical processes master around physicochemical and engineering aspects "transport phenomena, transfer and processes, membrane and colloid science".

My research activities focus on problem at the frontier between membrane and colloid science ; a domain where the nanoscale phenomena are at the origin of scientific challenges and are at the source of future innovations.

But what are these sciences  ?

microsieve Membrane are porous interface which allows to separate small species (from micrometric particles in microfiltration to ions in reverse osmosis). Membranes are a potentially attractive process for waste and water treatment, for extraction and purification of pharmaceutical or biotechnological products, for blood treatment, for the development of artificial organ, for the milk or the wine processing...

The goal is to develop a more fundamental understanding of the complex interactions between colloids, biological cells or molecules and materials that govern the behavior of these processes.

Interacting particlesColloids or nanoparticles are species dispersed in a solvant with a size lying between ten nanometers and ten micrometers. At such size, surface interaction between particles (Van der Waals and electrostatic) controls the properties of colloids (rheology, diffusion ...).Colloids are present in natural form (clay in water, milk, wine, biological liquid ...) or in industrial applications (paints, ...).

Colloidal systems have both important academic and industrial significance in a wide variety of areas. Because of surface interactions, colloids offer the opportunity to investigate the dynamic of multi-body interacting systems. These interactions are for example responsible of self-organisation processus. If such complex behaviors arefully controled, innovation, new processes and new products would be developped.
